Nevron SSRS Vision custom report items Installation Guidelines

This article addresses Nevron SSRS Vision custom report items installation.

Before you begin the installation
Before you begin the SSRS Vision installation, please take a look at the following topic:
Nevron SSRS Vision System Requirements

In the SSRS Vision download package, we are providing two installations – Designer and Server installs. This is because users may install SSRS with BIDS (Business Intelligence Development Studio) or without BIDS (usually this is the case for production report server which doesn't require BIDS).

Designer Installation
You need to run the Designer installation on your development machines which are used for designing the SSRS reports. The installation will register the Chart and Gauge custom report items in BIDS on the development machine, they are required in order to develop the reports.

Note that Designer installation also includes all required server components.

Server Installation
You need to run the Server installation on your report servers which don't have BIDS. These are usually production SSRS servers and not development servers.

The Server installation includes only the Nevron assemblies which are required to process reports that contain Nevron custom report items. These include:

Nevron.Chart.dll
Nevron.Chart.Template.dll
Nevron.GraphicsGL.dll
Nevron.Presentation.dll
Nevron.ReportingServices.Chart.dll
Nevron.System.dll

With the installation, these assemblies are registered in the server GAC.

Designer Installation Process

Run the Designer installation on the development machine which has BIDS:

Press the "Next" button, the Installation Wizard will guide you through the installation process.

During the installation, you can select which components to install. It is recommended to install both Designer and Server components as this allows you to preview your reports. The sample database is required for the report project examples that are shipped with the installation.

During the installation, you will be prompted to install the Nevron Sample Database:

Select the SQL Server will be used for the sample database and click "Next" to continue (you can leave "local" if the database will be installed on the local development machine SQL Server).

Enter the name for the sample database and click on the "Finish" button to start the installation.

Wait for the sample database to be installed and for the Designer installation wizard to complete.

Now, you should be able to see the Nevron custom report items under the Visual Studio (BIDS) Toolbox and start using them, just like you would use any Report Item:

You should also be able to run the Sample Report Projects from:
Start Menu >> All Programs >> Nevron SSRS Vision
