Nevron Vision for SharePoint Web Parts Examples Installation Guidelines

This article addresses Nevron Vision for SharePoint web parts examples installation guidelines.

Installing the Nevron Vision for SharePoint Web Part examples

With the installation of Nevron Vision for SharePoint we are also providing the possibility to install the Chart web part and Gauge web part examples.

The examples are installed as new Web Applications in your SharePoint server. The web parts will be connecting to the sample Data Base (NevronSPVisionsExampleDB), which comes with the installation. Exploring the Examples web applications will help you review and understand specific Chart/Gauge features. You will also be able to reuse the web part templates for your projects.

1. Running the Examples Registration Wizard
Once you have installed Nevron Vision for SharePoint on the application server (or one of the WFE servers in your farm), you should be able to run the Examples Registration Wizard from the Start menu >> All Programs >> Nevron SharePoint Vision

2. Select the examples you would like to install
Once the Wizard starts, you will first have to select if you would like to install the Chart or Gauge web part examples:

Press the "Next" button to advance to the next page.

3. Configure the Web Application for the examples
On this page you must select the port number and User that owns the newly created application. Make sure to provide a port that is not in use by another web application. In general the settings are identical to the ones you specify when you create a new web application/site collection form Central Administration:

We recommend that you uncheck the “Use Network Service Account” and that the account you use for the Application Pool is also a SharePoint Managed Account.
Press the "Next" button to advance to the next page.

Port Number - the port number defines where you want to install the application.
User Id - the user id of the web site collection primary administrator
Use Network Service Account - whether to use the Network Service account or to specify an account
App Pool User Id - the user id of the application pool account
App Pool Password - the password for the application pool account
Use NTLM Security - whether to use NTML security. When unchecked the new web application will use Kerberos security.
Allow Anonymous - whether to allow anonymous access

4. Select the SQL Server where the wizard will create the example database
On this page you must select an SQL Server Instance and Database name where SharePoint will create the example database for the newly created web application.

Press the "Finish" button to start the installation process.

Database Name - allows you to type a database name for the example database. By default the example will use NevronSPVisionsExampleDB. If this database already exists on the server it will be recreated.
SQL Server Instance - the SQL server instance that will host the newly created example database.
Authentication Type - the type of authentication method to use when connecting to the database. By default the wizard uses "Windows Authentication". You can also select "SQL Server Authentication" from the combo in which case you'll have to provide a valid user name and password.

5. Complete the examples installation
The following picture shows the output page that appears when you press Finish:

Once the installation process completes, click the “Close” button.

6. Additional configurations for the Examples Web Application
For some systems, you will need to perform additional configurations in order to run the newly created web application for the examples.

For SharePoint 2007
From Central Administration >> Application Management >> Application Security, select Authentication providers:

From the Web Application dropdown, change the Web Application and select the new application we have just created. Then click the “Default” zone.

On the “Edit Authentication” page, make sure that you select the following:
- Enable anonymous access
- Integrated Windows authentication: Select NTLM
- Enable Client Integration: Yes

You should now be able to login to the new web application, using the Site Collection administrator account.

For SharePoint 2010
From Central Administration >> Application Management, select Manage web applications:

Select the new web application that was created and click on the Authentication Providers button from the ribbon menu:

Click the “Default” zone.

On the “Edit Authentication” screen, make sure that you select the following:
- Enable anonymous access
- Integrated Windows authentication: Select NTLM
- Enable Client Integration: Yes

Then click the “Save” button.

You should now be able to login to the new web application, using the Site Collection administrator account.

NOTE: You may receive an error message that you are unable to open the Nevron sample database:
An error occurred during the web part rendering. The error was: Cannot open database "NevronSPVisionExamplesDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

To resolve this, on the SQL Server you simply need to provide Read permissions for the 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON' account on the NevronSPVisionExamplesDB sample database.

You can also locate the template files (.ncsp and .ngsp) for these examples under the Nevron installation folder on your server.
